Air Commodore Sir Frank Whittle OM KBE CB
Frederick Muller. First edition, first impression 1953. 320 pages plus photographs.
A Fine condition hardback book in dark blue boards with gold gilt titles to the spine. The top edge of the text block retains its blue dye and the book feels fresh and tight with a square solid binding. The unclipped dustjacket is in Very Good condition with a few minor rubs and the slightest of fades to the spine. The period publicity photograph (measuring 16 x 12 cm) was signed in the 1950s when Whittle was a Group Captain and it came from the collection of a member of his team at the time and it is tucked (not stuck) neatly into the book. A very pleasing copy in all respects.
The autobiography of one of Britain’s greatest engineers from his early days as an RAF fighter pilot on 111 Squadron to his invention which revolutionised aviation and his shoddy treatment by the ‘Men from the Ministry’.
This is a scarce true first edition of an important autobiography in superb condition, complete with a signed photo of one of the greatest inventors in aviation history.
