‘Stapme’ was a South African who became one of the outstanding pilots of the Battle of Britain; a member of 603 Squadron flying alongside Richard Hillary and he features in ‘The Last Enemy’. He had an active war, commanding a Typhoon Squadron until he was shot down and captured a few months before the end of the war.
He was one of the real characters to survive the war and to many was the quintessential image of a Battle of Britain fighter pilot and was consequently very popular at veteran events and book and print signings.
A neat collection of signatures in a well researched and authoritative book.
