  • Price: £ 95

Letter signed by Field-Marshal Montgomery

Collins First Edition, 1958.   274 pages and well illustrated with photographs.

A Very Good condition, solid hardback book in burgundy boards. There is some scattered light foxing to the first few and last pages and a little discoloration on the title page. The dustjacket is in Near Fine condition complete, bright and unclipped. There is a neat previous owner name and date on the front end paper. The letter is dated 15-2-68 and appears to be addressed to his gardener but it is on personal stationary,  handwritten and nicely signed. It is not attached to the book.

Sir Bernard Montgomery, more commonly known by his title Field-Marshal Montgomery of Alamein or simply ‘Monty’, was the commander of the British Eighth Army in Africa and head of ground forces during Operation Overlord (Battle of Normandy and the D-Day Invasion). After WWII, he took command of the British Army of the Rhine in Germany and died in 1976.

This is Monty’s autobiography, the original manuscript was handwritten entirely in pencil, and he tells the story of his life and role in some of the most momentous battles of WWII.

This is a very collectable WWII item with the value being in the signature rather than the book.
