In February 1944, Wireless Operator Lionel Scott baled out of his burning 44 Squadron Lancaster seconds before it crashed in Occupied Europe. For the next 7 months, Scott was a wanted man, an evader in the midst of the enemy. At first in hiding and then as an active member of the French Resistance, Scott worked as a radio operator until he met up with advancing American forces after D-Day.
First published in 1959 as ‘I Dropped In’, this revised memoir is an outstanding picture of life in Occupied France under the Nazis, of the challenges and dangers faced by Allied operatives during the war, as well as the sacrifices made by those who fought against tyranny.
An enthralling and well told story and a signed copy is a rare find.
