This is the first full biography of Willy Messerschmitt (1898-1978), an outstanding and innovative aircraft designer. His inventive genius sought to improve performance and advance the barriers of aviation knowledge despite working under increasingly difficult conditions as the war turned against Germany. Starting with sailplanes, he went on to design airliners, fighters, bombers, rocket and jet propelled aircraft and finished his career working on the Airbus.

Messerschmitt’s name will forever be associated with the Me 109 and Me 262, in both of which he took an immense pride. This is a fascinating biography of both the man and his amazing aeroplanes and is greatly enhanced by a scare Messerschmitt signature.
