This is the scarce hardback first edition. It tells the story of the making of the classic 1969 film detailing the aircraft used, locations, memorabilia, interviews, quotes and lots of superb previously unpublished pictures, many in colour.
During the 1960s there was one man the film industry turned to when it needed old aircraft; Group Captain TG ‘Hamish’ Mahaddie. After a very distinguished wartime career in Bomber Command and the Pathfinders, Hamish retired from the RAF in 1959 to set up an aviation consultancy for the movie business. By the time ‘The Battle of Britain’ came along he had already been involved with ‘633 Squadron’, ‘Operation Crossbow’ and a number of the James Bond films. He spent two years tracking down and acquiring all the wartime aircraft to make the movie as authentic as possible, and then another year consulting while the film was in production. It is fair to say that Hamish’s endeavours were key to the success of the movie.
An excellent book for any aviation and film enthusiast.
