Fine condition softback book. A really nice copy of this excellent book. NB David Cox was a Battle of Britain pilot with 19 Squadron.
RAF Coolham, situated 6 miles south west of Horsham in Sussex, was one of 7 Advanced Landing Grounds constructed in Sussex for the use of Fighter Command and its allies. Construction started in 1943; the first squadrons arrived on 1 April 1944 and the last aircraft departed on 3 July 1944. Polish, Belgian and New Zealand as well as British fighter squadrons flying Mustang IIIs and Spitfire 9s were based there flying operations in support of D-Day. By 1946, the metal runway had been taken up and the site had reverted to agricultural land and was all but forgotten.
A really well researched and evocative book, of interest to anyone who has driven past the memorial and wondered ‘what happened here….?’
