Sentinel Publishing first edition 1995. 196 pages and well illustrated with photos and drawings.
Fine condition hardback book. Clean, tight and bright. Fine condition unclipped dustjacket with just a little sun fade to the bright red spine. A really pleasing copy.
Walter Morison served as an RAF bomber pilot with No. 103 Squadron, flying Wellington operations during the height of Bomber Command’s campaign. In June 1942 his aircraft collided with another bomber on route to Essen; Morison was the sole survivor, parachuting into captivity with serious injuries. Imprisoned in Stalag Luft III, he became known for a daring 1943 escape attempt in which he and fellow prisoner Lorne Welch tried to steal a German aircraft. Recaptured and sent to Colditz, he remained there until liberation in 1945.
Flak and Ferrets is a sharp, engaging memoir based on notes written in 1945 and on letters home. It blends fascinating detail with a wonderfully dry RAF wit and this is indeed a tale which enthrals and entertains with the sort of gallows humour that kept men sane under pressure.
A very enjoyable and readable RAF PoW memoir.
