William Kimber First edition 1970.  239 pages including more than 50 photographs and illustrations

Fine condition hardback book in black covers. Very clean, bright and tight with just some light spotting to the top edge of the pages only. With a Fine condition unclipped dustjacket. A first class example of this book.

In the history of the airship, no other flyer can have had a richer record of experience than Captain Meager; his association with them spans from the decision of the British Admiralty in 1915 to build some small airships to act as submarine scouts, right through to the last flight of the R.100 and to the tragedy of the R.101 which followed a month later in the autumn of 1930.

Captain Meager’s flying career started in the RNAS when he flew intensively on active service anti-submarine patrols and in 1918 he commanded the record breaking flight of SR.1 from Rome to Chatham for which he was awarded the AFC.  After the war, he was First officer on the maiden flight of R.100 and was navigator on her subsequent double crossing of the Atlantic.  He participated in the entire active career of this most successful of British airships and these memoirs give a fascinating insight into this unique form of aircraft.

An exceptionally scarce signed aviation book for any aviation library.
