A history of 22 Squadron in the Great War

  • Price: £ 50

A history of 22 Squadron Royal Flying Corps and RAF in the Great War 1914-1918

Published by Colin Huston, first edition 1971.  Quarto sized, 107 pages and well illustrated with photos, maps and documents.

Fine condition hard cover book with pictorial boards and no dustjacket (as issued). Errata sheet tipped in to front end paper.  Minor wear only to the edges and a small corner clipped from the lower corner of the endpaper- something which has been noted in other copies of this book too.  However, this is an unusually well preserved and fresh copy in all respects.

This book is a comprehensive and compelling history of 22 Squadron. It was formed in 1915 as an aerial reconnaissance unit of the Royal Flying Corps which became part of the Royal Air Force upon its establishment in 1918. Multiple appendices list the roll of squadron and flight commanders, casualties, honours and awards, and includes brief biographies.  The author served on 22 Squadron as  flight commander and had the distinction of being awarded the very first Distinguished Flying Cross.

A scarce book especially in this condition and a very nice addition to a WW1 aviation library.
