This is a one-off book commissioned by Spitfire Books which incorporates a number of items published by the Royal Aeronautical Society (Southampton Branch) on the occasion of the Mitchell Memorial Symposium on Saturday 6th March 1976. The book is in Fine condition.

The A4 sized hardback book is bound in black boards with silver gilt titles to the front and spine, black endpapers and white and silver headbands. The book contains a booklet given to attendees of the Mitchell Memorial Symposium, containing 65 pages and is well illustrated with photographs, diagrams, line drawings and tables showing the development of the Spitfire. Also bound in is an original poster for the event, a list of participants, the event programme and biographies of the speakers amongst other information.

Contents include: biographies and appreciations of the main designers, RJ Mitchell and Joseph Smith; a reprint of a lecture on the development of the Spitfire given by Joe Smith in 1946; an essay on Rolls Royce engines by Sir Stanley Hooker; sections with sketches showing Spitfire and Seafire development through the various marks with numbers built, performance figures and distinguishing features; RAF personalities; a short history of the Supermarine Works and some great photographs of Spitfires.

A very nice piece of Spitfire memorabilia in the run-up to its 90th anniversary next month. Further details and pictures are available on request.
