Frederick Forsyth began his career in the Royal Air Force in 1956, earning his wings aged eighteen. After two years, he left to pursue journalism. At twenty-five, he was stationed in East Berlin as a journalist during the Cold War. Before he turned thirty, he was in Africa controversially covering the bloodiest civil war in living memory. Three years later, broke and out of work, he wrote his game-changing first novel “The Day of the Jackal,” published in 1971,which received critical acclaim and won the 1972 Edgar Award for Best Novel. Its meticulous research and gripping narrative set a new standard for the thriller genre, making Forsyth a household name. Forsyth’s books have sold over 70 million copies worldwide and have been adapted into numerous films.

Forsyth saw some of the most exhilarating moments of the last century from the inside, travelling the world, once or twice on her majesty’s secret service. He was shot at, he was arrested, he was even seduced by an undercover agent. But all the while he felt he was an outsider. This is his story. Forsyth passed away in 2025 aged 86.

A very collectable signed autobiography and an entertaining read.
