William Kimber First Edition 1987. 232 pages and well illustrated with photos. Pilot signed Spitfire attack
Very Fine condition hardback book in dark blue boards with a Very Fine condition unclipped dustjacket. The book is clean, bright, tight and unread. It feels practically new. The letter, complete with it’s envelope, is dated 17th April 1988 and is in very good condition with folds. Rolls writes “I hope you have enjoyed the book and from the number of letters, telephone calls etc both home and abroad, a lot of people have read and enjoyed it sufficiently to tell me so.”
These are the memoirs of Bill Rolls who was a Sergeant Pilot with 72 Squadron during the Battle of Britain, winning the DFM. In Malta he was awarded the DFC. He finished the war with 17 victories. He died in 1988 only a year after this book’s publication.
This is one of the most scarce Kimber books due to the very small print run and Rolls’ signature is scarce too, making this book and associated letter an excellent addition to a Battle of Britain library.
